The book “Oxford EAP” by Edward de Chazal and Sam McCarter is an integrated course designed to develop students' skills in higher-level academic contexts. The book consists of twelve units, each with an academic focus such as describing and defining, identifying evidence in texts, and developing arguments. In addition, each unit also addresses a specific academic topic, ranging from Education to Independence¹.

Each unit is divided into four skills with an additional section for vocabulary. There is a section for listening to lectures which includes understanding the structure of the lecture, recognizing the language used in the lecture, listening for the main idea and identifying supporting evidence, and taking notes. The DVD-ROM included in the book provides lecture excerpts and MP3 audio files of classes with student presentations and seminar discussions, which are very useful for students¹.

The speaking part of the unit covers seminars, tutorials, presentations, informal discussions, and at the end of the book, video and audio transcripts are included. The reading section focuses on a variety of academic texts from different disciplines taken from authentic Oxford University Press publications (academic textbooks and journals). The writing section covers the writing process from understanding essay titles to referencing, and answering exam questions. The units look at different types of essays and at the end of the book, sample answers are provided which are always helpful¹.

What sets this course book apart from others that have been used is that each unit has a box containing the academic language for that particular topic; this links to the language reference section at the back of the book. Having a glossary of grammatical and academic terms at the end of the book along with a reference guide to language terminology - the meaning, form and usage of each area of the language is a useful tool for students to have. Additional reference material is provided such as information on plagiarism and referencing sources. The book is well structured, easy to use, and student-friendly. The design and layout of the book is modern and clean. It is useful as a core textbook as well as a resource for self-study and homework. The texts are engaging for students allowing them to discuss the topics. The author has chosen topics that are culturally neutral, allowing students to focus on the practical and functional side of EAP with 'light'¹ language theory.

The book entitled “Foreign Language Teaching and Learning” by Aleidine Kramer Moeller and Theresa Catalano is a valuable resource for educators and researchers in the field of foreign language teaching. The book emphasizes the shift from teacher-centered to student-centered learning environments, relying on language theory, research findings, and experience to develop teaching strategies and learning environments that engage students in interactive communicative language tasks¹.

E-book Communicating in Business

This module looks at issues relating to working with professionals from other countries where cultural misunderstandings may cause embarrassment. It relates closely to the later module on Meetings. This unit focuses on developing personal relationships and mutual understanding between business partners. Unit 2 looks more directly at socializing within a business context, invitations, entertaining, and eating out. The unit begins with an ice-breaker as a chance to develop small talk, before looking specifically at working with American and British people, together with suggestions on preparing for contacts with other countries. Knowledge and understanding is essential in order to get along well with one’s partners from other countries. Socializing is instrumental in this: it is about building relationships. The second section deals with welcoming visitors and helping them to feel at ease. This theme is used as a lead-in to small talk, which is developed in the final section of the unit and again in Unit 2. Small talk is looked at in terms of various topics and how to keep conversation going. There is a lot of scope for discussion of students’ own ideas in the unit. The Transfer includes an option on a small research project. Think about the extent to which your students may travel to other countries or are likely to receive visitors. This is important. In the latter case, discuss which aspects of the students’ own country, town or culture might be interesting or unusual for a visitor
